Have you ever traveled somewhere and immediately felt your soul vibrate and your smile come alive? That was me the first time I traveled to this side of Cuba for an elopement in Havana. Although I had traveled to the Island before with my father, I had always been to the east side. So the first time I actually got to travel to Havana was with this beautiful couple from Miami. Since they decided to elope to the brides hometown and we got to go along for the ride.
I can tell you one thing, cubans have a spark that I have never seen before. When you are in this town you can feel the floor vibrate from all the laughter. Also, from all the dancing that goes on at night. It is most definitely one of the most joyous locations. I am lucky to have been able to shoot a wedding in. Even in their situation they still find the silver lining and love hard on people.
We stayed in an apartment overlooking the gorgeous Hotel Nacional de Cuba. Ate so many wonderful meals, enjoyed so many talks with the locals and drank all the mojitos. We spent a whole weekend with the couple and got to experience their love. When we finally got to their session in Old Havana o La Habana Vieja, as they call it in the Island; it was absolute perfection. An Elopement in Havana is pretty much the epitome of having a historic wedding.
Planning an elopement can truly be a perfect experience. It is all about finding the location that connects with your heart and your story. There are so many beautiful locations around the world. I can definitely say I have been able to shoot in many incredible ones. I think that a Caribbean elopement is one of the best routes to go. Mostly because you have so many gorgeous options and the Island vibes are always strong.
